Topic 08- Section View in Engineering Drawing-Must know
Introduction
When you make orthographic views, either multi-view or axonometric, there are a lot of features which are not visible because of the design of the object. Although these are intuitive when you view an isometric view, and the hidden features also appear with the use of hidden lines in the Multiview.
Section Views are a special case of multi-views. They can make the hidden features appear as visible parts. This becomes really helpful to observe different parts and understand the inner features of the design.

Types of line in Section View
We must understand the types of lines which are needed to define the section view. We will explain them in the following text one-by-one;
Cutting Plane line
Thick alternating long-short-short-long lines with arrows or long dashed line with arrows. There are drawn where an imaginary cut took place and direction it is viewed
Section Line
Thin angled parallel lining. There are drawn where the faces are cut by an imaginary cutting plane. There are different types of section lines. They are also used to denote the material of part of the assembly.
Note
It is to be noted that the cutting plane line would be drawn in one view and the section lines would be drawn in the corresponding view. The corresponding view is the view which shows the side cut by the cutting plane. The characteristic feature of this corresponding view is that it has the section lines.

Types of section view
There are different section views. We would only list their names to familiarize them to you. You can know more about them when you want to learn them in detail. Some of these are: Full and Half Section, Offset Section, Revolved Section and Broken out Section.
