Geminids

The Geminids are a meteor shower that occurs annually in December. They are recognized for their bright, colorful meteors that are produced when Earth passes through a stream of debris left by the asteroid 3200 Phaethon. The meteor shower typically peaks around December 13th to 14th, resulting in numerous visible meteors—often with rates exceeding 100 meteors per hour under ideal conditions. The meteors are characterized by their fast speeds, entering the Earth’s atmosphere at about 35 kilometers per second, and often display vibrant colors due to the composition of the debris. The Geminids are one of the most prolific and reliable meteor showers of the year, offering excellent viewing opportunities for astronomy enthusiasts.
