Asteroids

Asteroids are small rocky bodies that orbit the Sun, primarily found in the region between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter known as the asteroid belt. They vary in size, shape, and composition, with some being only a few meters across while others can be hundreds of kilometers in diameter. Asteroids are remnants from the early formation of the solar system, and they are considered to be leftovers from the building blocks of planets. They can be composed of various materials, including metals, silicates, and carbon-rich compounds. Some asteroids have also been discovered to have their own moons. In addition to their scientific interest, asteroids are of significance for planetary defense, as their orbits can sometimes bring them close to Earth, posing potential impact risks.
